Maritime archaeology Gotland
A maritime archaeological project
The project Heritage Underwater Maritime Archaeology is a marine archaeological project with focus on research of the Gotland underwater heritage.
The first step in the project that runs until autumn in 2008 was to salvage a Cannon in the harbour of Visby. The Cannon belonged to one of the 15 warships that went under during a storm in 1566. The leader of the project is AquaArkeologen. The project is financed by Nord Stream AG which is doing comprehensive research for the planned natural gas pipeline through the Baltic Sea.
Revival of the disaster
Through cooperation with the County Museum of Gotland, there is now a possibility to do a revival of that horrible night in 1566 when thousands of people died. In mid-December the County Museum of Gotland will open their new exhibition about the Danish-Lübeck fleet.
